Semolina Upma

This is one of our staple breakfast dishes. It is quick to make and therefore perfect for the lazy, sleep-in weekend.

What you'll need..
  • 1 Small potato, cut into small pieces
  • 1 Small onion chopped
  • 1 Medium tomato chopped
  • 1-2 Green chillies chopped
  • 1/2 Tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 3/4 Tsp chilli powder
  • 1 Cup roasted semolina (Rava/Suji)
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro leaves
  • Salt to taste
How to..
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan.
  • Add the mustard seeds and wait for it to splutter.
  • Add the chopped potatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes stirring frequently.
  • Then add the onions and cook for another 3-4 minutes till they get pink.
  • Now add the chopped tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Mix well.
  • Cover with a lid and cook on medium heat till the tomatoes get mushy.
  • Add about a cup of water into the cooked vegetables on high heat, and when it starts to bubble add the roasted semolina.
  • Mix constantly for 2-3 minutes till the water gets absorbed and the upma is not runny anymore.
  • Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve hot.
