Cabbage Thoran

This is another one of my grandmother's recipes. It is a side dish of cabbage prepared with coconut, that goes well with rice and sambar

What you'll need..
  • 3 Cups cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Cup grated coconut
  • 2-3 Green chilles, slit in the middle
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 Inch chunk of onion
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
How to..
  • In a mixer/blender, grind together the grated coconut, onion, cumin seeds, turmeric and chilli powder into a dry paste.
  • Heat oil in a large non stick pan. Add the mustard seeds to it and wait for it to splutter.
  • Now add the curry leaves and the slit green chillies. Fry for about 30 seconds.
  • Add the chopped cabbage and mix well. Now add the coconut mixture and salt and mix again.
  • Cook for 8-10 minutes till the cabbage is well done. Serve hot.
