Bread Upma

This is a different take on the traditional Semolina (Rava or Suji) Upma. I generally make this when i'm in a hurry or have only a few left over vegetables in my fridge.

What you'll need..
  • 2 Cups bread crumbs. I make mine at home by grinding left over slices of bread in the blender.
  • 1/2 Onion chopped
  • 1/2 Green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 Green chilli chopped
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1/4 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp chilli powder
  • 1 Tbsp cilantro leaves chopped
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
How to..
  • Heat oil in a non stick dish.
  • Add the cumin seeds and wait for them to splutter.
  • Then add asafoetida and after about 10-15 seconds add the onions and green chilli.
  • After about 3-4 minutes when the onions turn translucent, add the bell pepper, turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Mix well and cook for another 3-4 minutes on medium heat.
  • Now add the bread crumbs, lemon juice and chopped cilantro leaves. Mix well till they all blend together and serve hot.
