What you'll need..

- 1 Medium tomato finely chopped
- 1 Small onion finely chopped
- 1-2 Garlic cloves finely chopped
- 2 Green chillis finely chopped
- 1 Inch piece of ginger finely chopped

- 1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro leaves
- Salt to taste
How to..
- Boil the green dal with tomato till the dal is well cooked. I always use the pressure cooker for boiling dals but it can also be done in a non stick pot.
- Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan.
- Add mustard and cumin seeds and wait for them to splutter.
- Add the chopped ginger, garlic, chilli and cook for 12-15 seconds till the garlic gets fragrant.
- Add the onions and saute for 5 mins on medium flame till the onion gets pink.
- Add salt, chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder and coriander powder and mix well.
- Once all the spices are blended into the onions, add the cooked dal to it and mix well. Cover with a lid and cook for about 5-8 mins.
- Add water as needed depending on how thick or thin you want the dal to be.
- Mix in cilantro and lemon juice once done and serve hot.
