Moong Dal Tadka

This is my absolute favorite dal to have with roti. Really easy to make, the tadka gives it a good punch of flavor.

What you'll need..
  • 1/2 Cup moong dal (Split yellow moong beans) This same recipe can also be made using chana dal.
  • 1 Medium tomato chopped
  • 1-2 Green chillies chopped
  • 1/2 Small onion chopped
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 Tsp corriander powder
  • 1/2 Tsp dry mango powder
  • 1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp chopped cilantro leaves
How to..
  • Boil the moong dal, tomato and green chilli till the dal is well cooked.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. Wait for it to splutter.
  • Add the boiled dal to the pan carefully coz it will sizzle.
  • Then add turmeric and salt, mix well and cover with a lid. If the dal is too thick, add a little water. Cover and cook for 5-8 minutes.
  • Remove the dal from heat into the serving dish.
  • Mix together the chilli, coriander and dry mango powders and sprinkle all over the dal.
  • In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil. Add the cumin seeds to it and wait for it to splutter. Remove the pan from heat and with a spoon, pour the hot oil evenly over the dry spices on the dal.
  • Garnish with chopped onions, cilantro and lemon juice. Serve hot.
