Aloo Mutter

This is an easy, one dish, recipe which i make in the pressure cooker. Alternatively, it can also be made in a non stick pot.

What you'll need..
  • 3 Tbsp oil
  • 1 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 Tbsp gram flour (Besan)
  • 2 Large or 3 medium tomatoes pureed
  • 1 Large potato cut into big pieces
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 Tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 Tsp cumin powder
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro leaves chopped
  • Salt to taste
How to..
  • Heat oil in the pot or pressure cooker.
  • Add cumin seeds and wait till they start to splutter.
  • Reduce the heat and add the gram flour. Cook for about a minute till it gets fragrant and light brown in color.
  • Add the pureed tomatoes, chopped chillies, salt, turmeric, chilli and cumin powders. Mix well. If the tomato puree is too thick, add 1/4 cup water.
  • Add the potatoes and peas. Once the tomato puree starts to bubble, cover with the lid.
  • If using a pressure cooker, cook on high heat till the first whistle and after that reduce heat to low and cook for about 15 minutes. Allow it to cool down before opening the lid.
  • If cooking in a pot, cover with lid and cook on medium heat till the potatoes get tender.
  • Once your dish is ready, you will notice that the tomato gravy thickens. Add water to adjust the thickness of the gravy, if necessary.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve hot.
