Kanda Pohe

This is a fast and easy recipe for breakfast which is a staple in Mumbai and made with flattened rice. 


What you'll need..
  • 1 and 1/2 Cups Pohe (Flattened rice,thick variety)
  • 1/2 Tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 Tsp asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1 Small onion chopped
  • 1 Small potato boiled and cut into chunks
  • 2 Green chillies chopped
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro leaves chopped
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
How to..
  • Wash the pohe with water. Drain and set aside. The pohe should be moist but not mashed.
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add the mustard and cumin seeds to it and wait for them to splutter.
  • Add the green chillies and asafoetida and fry for about 30 seconds.
  • Add onions and cook for 4-5 minutes till they turn translucent. Then add the potato turmeric powder and salt and cook for another 2-3 minutes. 
  • Add the pohe and mix well. Cover with a lid and cook for 3-4 minutes. 
  • Mix in lemon juice and cilantro leaves. Garnish with nylon sev and serve hot.
